Glock Handgun

Glock handguns are one of the most well known firearms in the world. It has become the firearm industry’s top chosen model because of their full line of various sized handguns and their ability to fire a wide range of ammunition types. With polymer receivers and machined slide rails, their reliability and durable construction makes this line of pistols to often be the pick of choice for anyone from law enforcement and security companies to those who use them on the firing range. Glock has designed many other types of pistols for the casual user. Glock customers have no problem finding the correct model for their situation and the right customizations that may be needed.

Glocks are sold worldwide with reports by the company of over 2 million handguns sold. The United States FBI issues this brand of firearm to students graduating from the academy.

The first Glock handgun was the Glock 17 which was produced for the Austrian army and then an entire line of pistols followed suit with varying characteristics. They are built sturdy enough to handle being banged around or even dropped. Some proven advantages for law enforcement is their design to hold large amounts cartridges in comparison to standard handguns, as well as being light enough even when loaded to carry in a holster all day without being uncomfortable. Night sights are available for these handguns as well as a variety of sights or night lights, which is a plus when it comes to their usability with law enforcement and security agencies.

Its simple design with nearly half as many parts as its competitors is a key factor making maintenance and repairs much easier than with other handguns. Disassembly is just as simple, removing the need for expensive tools required with some other handguns, in order to detail strip.

Most of the steel parts in the Glock construction are coated with a chemical mix called Tenifer. This process gives a very hard surface to your gun that protects it from corrosion, making Glocks even more rust resistant than stainless steel.

Being an auto-loading pistol with a ‘Safe Action’ mechanism provides another reason for this weapons’ popularity. The slide must be racked in order for the striker spring to become partially compressed. Following this step, the trigger must be set before the pistol is able to be fired. The incorporation of these safety mechanisms become automatically activated as your slide is at battery.

The Glock 17, 21 and 31 pistols require no user actions to ensure they are rendered safe.
It also comes with an ergonomic grip angle, making it easy to take advantage of low recoil and muzzle flips. Double taps are easily and quickly achieved once you have figured out the proper trigger control. This makes practical accuracy quite easy to achieve.

Smith & Wesson Handguns

Smith & Wesson is the largest handgun manufacturer in the United States. They are well known for their introduction of over 15 types of ammunition as well as over 70 revolvers and 20 semi-automatic pistols. All of these accomplishments have occurred since the company’s beginnings in 1852.

In 1994, the Sigma series of semi-auto pistols was launched providing a series of locked breech recoil operated pistols. The frame is manufactured of polymer with stainless steel or carbon steel slides and barrels. In 1996, the Sigma was updated to a compact model by shortening of the barrel to 4 inches from the previous 4.5 inches. Another modification in 1999 resulted in the checkering of the grip and the addition of an accessory rail for lights, lasers and other accessories.

The debut of the M&P polymer framed pistol intended for law enforcement arrived in 2005. With the different model sizes available however, it is a good handgun choice for civilians as well. Their rounds per magazine range from 10 to 17 combined with the available calibers of 9mm, .40, .357 and .45 ensures the Smith & Wesson meets the needs of all handgun users for a variety of practices. Barrel lengths are 3.5 inches on the compact model, 4.25 inches on the standard, and 4.5 inches on the M&P45. Their respective weights without magazines are 21.7 to 22.2 ounces for the compact model, 24 to 25.5 ounces for the standard, and 29.6 ounces for the M&P45.

All Smith & Wesson revolvers are equipped with an internal locking system. This mechanism is unobtrusive for the most part and renders the firearm inoperable. It is activated with a key designed specifically for this purpose. There are several different safety features for the M&P model that are quite prominent. Equipped with a deactivation lever, the shooter must first check the chamber in order to disassemble the handgun. This prevents the necessity of having to pull the trigger in order for disassembly to be completed. With the passive trigger safety, the firearm cannot be discharged without the trigger being completely depressed, even in situations of a dropped weapon. There are also optional security extras available, such as an internal lock or magazine disconnect.

Another feature that is appreciated on the M&P is the ergonomic interchangeable grip, along with reversible magazine release and slide stop. Tritium sights are an available option as well, but only for the full sized versions. The .45 ACP model also has an option of a manual safety.

To date there are over 270 law enforcement agencies in the United States who have purchased already, or plan to purchase their firearms, from the M&P line of pistols. Add to this the additional accessories available such as handcuffs and holsters, and you will find that Smith & Wesson is the longest running manufacturer of law enforcement-related supplies.

Glock Handgun vs. Smith & Wesson Handgun

While both of these brands of firearm are quite popular, they do have their own distinctions. With each company’s available varieties, both brands are used for professional as well as recreational use, and are considered quite sturdy in the case of accidental dropping or use in rough circumstances.

The Glock specifications are quite varied, due to the number of available models to choose from. With barrel lengths ranging from 3.46 inches to 6.02 inches, every style and purpose is covered from compact to slimline to competition firearms. A few of the cartridges currently available are 9x19mm, .40, .45, and.380 with standard issue magazine capacities ranging from 6 to 33.

Unloaded weights for the Glocks range from 18.7 to 27.7 ounces. This makes them light enough, even when loaded to be comfortable to carry in a holster for long periods of time. This is quite practical when you consider the length of time law enforcement and security agency employees are required to have their weapons on hand. Available lights, sights and night sights facilitate use for law enforcement and security agencies.

S&W specifications are also varied. The barrel lengths on this make of handgun runs from the compact length of 3.5 inches to 4.5 inches on their M&P45 (military and police) models. Some of the available calibers from Smith & Wesson are 9mm, .40, .357 and .45 with magazine capacities of 10-17 rounds.

The weight of S&W handguns without magazines is in the range of 21.7 to 29.6 ounces. This makes them another great choice for law enforcement and other users who need to be carrying their firearm for extended periods of time. Smith & Wesson also offers several different illuminators and lights that are easily mounted, rendering these handguns even more facilitated for law enforcement and security personnel.

Safety is a vital part of the gun construction, and each of these companies has their own mechanism to ensure safe usage of these handguns. The Glock requires that the slide be racked in order for the striker spring to be partially compressed, therefore allowing for the trigger to be set and the handgun ready for firing. The S&W models are equipped with an internal locking system that is, for the most part unobtrusive. This renders the firearm inoperable until the activation key is used prior to use.

Both companies use their own style of ergonomic grip. However, the Smith & Wesson has the added bonus of interchangeable grips as well as a reversible magazine release and slide stop.

Although these firearms are important for law enforcement personnel, they are also available for those who choose to use them for recreational purposes. No matter what the intended use, be sure that everyone who has access to any firearm is properly trained in their use.

Rifles, Handguns, Shotguns, and related accessories

Rifles, Handguns, Shotguns, and related accessories

Rifles are shoulder fired guns with a barrel length of at least 16 inches. There are two main types of rifles; breech loaders which are loaded by the breech and muzzle loaders that are loaded by the muzzle due to having a solid breech.

There are three types of guns in the breech loader category; air rifles that use compressed air to shoot pellets, center-fires that use reloadable cartridges and rim-fires that use non-reloadable cartridges.

In the muzzle loader category there are also three types. Flint ignition has a flint that strikes against steel to make a spark that ignites a power charge, percussion cap ignitions that must be struck by a hammer to ignite the charge in the barrel, and primer ignition or center-fire where the primer must be struck by a hammer or firing pin in order to ignite in the barrel.

There are several accessories for rifles that can enhance performance and comfort while shooting. Slings are a practical way to carry your rifle and can be used in a variety of positions. Brass catchers can be added to your rifle to collect the hot brass casings upon ejection, and is easily emptied by using a Velcro closure. There are a multitude of sights and scopes that can be purchased as well as mountings, bipods or monopods and tactical lights.

Shotguns are smooth-bored firearms that come in a wide variety of sizes, with barrel lengths ranging from 24 to 24 inches, with bores of .22 inch up to 2 inch in diameter. The most popular gauges are 12 and 20, although there are other gauges available. Various operating mechanisms include break-action such as the double-barrel; pump-action with rounds fed in one by one and then pushed forward and semi-automatic shotguns that automatically eject the spent shells and reload a new shell into the chamber.

The ammunitions for shotguns are shotgun shells and shotgun slugs. Shot pellets from a shotgun spread upon leaving the barrel making it easier to hit small targets in comparison to a rifle. Popular uses of shotgun shells are for hunting birds and other small game, because of the large number of projectiles per shell. Shotguns are also advantageous with still targets due to its enormous stopping power at short range.

Some accessories available for shotguns include shotshell belts for carrying shell supplies easily, recoil pads, sling adapters, fire sights for low-light situations, and high capacity magazines.

Handguns are smaller, lighter, and easier to carry than rifles and shotguns. Since using a handgun only requires one hand it leaves a handgun user with a free hand that is available in circumstances such as when a light is needed independently of the weapon. This provides better maneuverability. Revolvers are equipped
with a rotating cylinder holding multiple cartridges, while pistols use magazines and clips. Normally pistols are equipped with an autoloader that loads another cartridge from the magazine when it is fired.
Some accessories for handguns include various types of grips, from laser to wood to rubber. There are handgun scopes available, and sights ranging from non-illuminated to illuminated as well as pipe-lit sights, and holsters that come in a variety of styles and colors for you to choose from.
As with all weapons, personal safety should also be considered. Safety glasses and hearing protection should be used at all times.

Gun Safes

Purchasing a Homeland Gun Safe Means Your Gun Is Secure and Everyone is Safe

Everyone wants to feel safe and secure, especially in their home. To be better equipped to protect themselves, their family, their home, and their belongings many people consider purchasing a gun. After purchasing a gun, however, there are other items to consider – proper storage, where members of the family will have access to the gun, and ensuring those with access have had proper training in gun usage.

When you own weapons for the protection of your family, home, and belongings, there are many things that need to be considered. The next consideration after acquiring your firearm should be the purchase of a gun safe. In making this purchase you are ensuring that not only your family is safe, but so are the people in your community as well. It would be a terrible occurrence if more crimes were committed following the theft of your weapons from your home or office.

As well as protecting your weapons from intruders, you can also choose to store other valuable items as well, such as jewelry and important papers or documents. It is important to find a fireproof safe to protect these items. Fires are one of the worst tragedies your family could face. Having a fireproof safe can help you to rest assured that your valuable documents and possessions are secure.

At Homeland Safes, our goal is to help you make an informed purchase in regards to your specific needs. We have many gun safe models to choose from. Before making a gun safe purchase, you want to consider the needs of your family in gun ownership. Obviously, if you only have one hand gun, you won’t want a safe large enough for an entire arsenal.

Find the smallest possible gun safe that will hold your firearm, but also any important family heirlooms or important documents. Then, purchase a size just a bit larger, in case you decide to add other items to storage, or your purchase a second gun. We can provide you with high quality, durable gun safes that will meet all of your individual needs. Our models include, but are not limited to, gun safes, closet gun safes, rifle safes, and shotgun safes. We can provide you with quality vault doors as well, specific to your needs.

Safes can also protect against theft and fire. They offer the best quality security features available. When comparing various gun safes, please consider that our revolutionary designs for 2008 come with the following specifications:

The new 2” door, constructed with both inner and outer 10 gauge steel plates.
An extra ASTM approved sheet of gypsum fire board on door panel for added fire protection effectiveness.
Filled with ceramic wool insulation, able to withstand temperatures of 2300 degrees for 60 minutes.
Doors are protected by a seal that is activated by heat, and this seal expands to 10 times its size when exposed to heat from fire.
New 1-1/2” bolts – this new option is the thickest locking bolts in the industry. Made of solid steel, they can withstand the most brutal of attacks. Similar bolts are used in high security areas, such as banks and jewelry stores.
A variety of sizes are available. We offer smaller safes for handguns, to our large 72 X 60 X 27 single or double door safe.
Some models weigh in excess of 1,000 lbs., ensuring that the perpetrator will be unable to just walk away with your safe.
Mechanical or digital locks. With these locks, only people who have the correct combination are able to access the contents of your gun safe. Our safes are also equipped with interior re-lockers, which lock the safe a second time. This ensures added protection in the case of tampering.

When you purchase a gun, the wisest way to store it is in a secure Homeland Safe. Not only will you have a gun on your premises to protect your family, but you will ensure that those who don’t need access to your gun won’t be able to get access to it. It’s the best of both worlds.
